First Grade Curriculum Overview

Bible – Elementary Bible Series Grade 1 (ACSI / Purposeful Design 2011)

  • Students will develop a Christian worldview
  • The Christian worldview holds that the primary reason for each person’s existence is to love and serve God
  • Students will acquire in-depth knowledge of Bible truths, as well as apply scripture to their daily lives
  • Christian character traits as seen in Old and New Testament personalities
  • Memorize Scripture passages
  • Using prayer in our daily life
  • Singing about Biblical truths and praising God

Reading/Language Arts – Reading Street Series (Scott Foresman 2007)

    • Decoding: Consonant sounds & Short and long vowels
    • Introduce consonant & vowel digraphs, diphthongs
    • Introduce combinations er, ir, or, ar
    • Introduce consonant blends
    • Introduce suffix: -s, -ing, -ly
  • Participate in listening to, reading, and discussing different various genres of literature

  • Build strategies such as context clues to unlock meanings of unfamiliar words
