In ninteen fourty two, with Nazis occupying Holland, a thirteen-year-old Jewish girl and her family left their home in Amsterdam and went into hiding. For the next two years, until they were betrayed to the Gestapo, they and an other family lived close together in the “Secret Annex” of an old office building. They were cut off from the world. She included many of the difficulties of being a Jew in World War 2. In my opinion, this book was a little weird. The book ends when “The Secret Annex” was found. This was 3 months before she would’ve turned 16. Also, 2 months later Holland, the place they lived in, was liberated by the allies. 51. The book I read was Darkness over Denmark by Ellen Levine. This was a great book based on WW2 when Germany invades Denmark. You get to see how even though the Germans “technically” take over Denmark, the Danish people do not give up. The people of Denmark stay true to their country as they find ways to transport Jews to Sweden for safety, print newspapers at hidden printing presses to get the truth out to the Danes, and perform minor acts of sabotage against the Germans. This book can be found in the PHCA library. I highly recommend it!
